Abstract
Deaf literature is a recent and still relatively unexplored topic in academic circles. In order to contribute to the existing discussions on this subject (KARNOPP, 2006, 2008, 2010; NICHOLS, 2016; QUADROS, 1999, 2004, 2019), this study aims to present possibilities for deaf literature production through a linguistic-literary approach. Based on the bibliographical review of academic productions about deaf literature and about the cognitive benefits on the development of two languages (FINGER; BRENTANO; FONTES, 2018; MARCELINO, 2017; DEHAENE, 2009; 2021), as well as on the reading of classical productions of Deaf Children's Literature (LIS) and Deaf Adult Literature, we propose in this article, in agreement with Karnopp (2008), that deaf literary productions written in SignWriting (written version of sign languages) and in Portuguese can bring several benefits to the deaf community, as they provide contact with the Portuguese language in written form and with Libras, therefore, generating cognitive benefits for the development of deaf people, and greater interactions between the deaf community and the hearing community.
