Abstract
Objective: This research focused on the study of the culture in organizations and current communication processes in the Information Technology Directorate of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, seeking to understand the influence of social representations present in the newspaper “O Sistemático”, according to the perception of employees, and their impact on organizational culture. Theoretical framework: Considering culture as a metaphor for the organization, the aim was to identify the social representations (Moscovici, 2007) published by the newspaper "O Sistemático", also through a multi-paradigmatic approach using the perspectives of integration, differentiation and fragmentation proposed by Joanne Martin (1992), in order to analyze how the social representations are seen by the current members. Methodology: As a case study, the research was carried out using a qualitative approach. Data collection was through interviews with employees and documentary analysis of internal newspaper issues. The information obtained was analyzed from the perspective of discourse analysis, which focuses on the social interpretation of the discourses and the relationships between the speeches, texts and behaviors of the social context under study. Results: The results pointed to an organization in which the organizational reality indicated that this integrative perspective was hardly perceived in the current scenario, even though the information channel propagated representations that indicated an environment with a tendency towards integration. The departure of long-serving members of the organization and the arrival of younger staff has led to a change in the integrating values of another era leading to a decline in the social representations present in the newspaper. The organization was perceived as an environment in which Martin's (1992) perspectives of differentiation and fragmentation were strongly present, and which was permeated by group and individual manifestations. In this context, it was concluded that reformulating the communication mechanism was an important action to take in order to make the cultural diversity present in the organization better represented. Originality: By combining the theory of social representations with Matin's (1992) multi- paradigmatic approach, this research enabled the cultural aspects of the sector and the manifestations perceived by its members to be identified through a new lens. In this way, the evaluation of this perception dealt with cultural representativeness in relation to the articles published in 'O Sistemático' and in relation to the newspaper itself. Theoretical and practical contributions: Taking into account the suggestions and criticisms made by members of the organization, this survey proposes the content and formats for a new information channel for the sector. The aim of this proposal is to develop a mechanism that represents the values and ideals of the sector's current culture in organization, allowing officials to participate and express their views on its construction and maintenance. KEYWORDS: Organizational Culture. Social representations. Internal communication. Internal Newspaper. Public Administration.
