A study was conducted, from April to June 1995, in the area of irrigation and drainage department of the Federal University of Ceara, in Fortaleza (Brazil), in order to evaluate the effects of increasing dosages of organic matter on the macronutrient uptake by seedling of CCP-76 dwarf cashew clone. A medium texture acid red-yellow soil was used for the experiment. Soil was collected from the top layer (0 to 30cm) from the coastal region of Ceara state. Treatments were as follow: five applications of organic matter (0, 100, 200, 300, and 400 cm3 of coprolite/2.5kg of soil) and four evaluation periods (15, 30, 45 and 65 days after germination). The experimental design was completely randomized in a split-plot with 4 replicates and 6 plants per plot. In the plots were evaluated the effects of organic matter increasing dosages, while the periods were assessed in the split-plot. Samples of plants (stem + leaves) underwent a nitric perchloric digestion and extracts were adjusted for N, K, Ca, Mg and S. Increasing organic matter dosages showed a positive linear effect for N and K, reaching the maximum value for the dosage of 400cm3 of coprolite/2.5kg of soil. As far the effects of evaluation periods were concerned, results revealed a negative linear effect. As for Ca, Mg and S they showed a stable trend during the evaluation periods.
