A construção do ethos por alunos de língua inglesa no gênero discursivo autoavaliação

Abstract

Este trabalho pretende investigar a forma como alunos universitários matriculados em um curso de extensão em língua inglesa constroem sua imagem através do gênero discursivo autoavaliação. Será considerada para tanto a proposta de Amossy (2005) e Maingueneau (2008) sobre a teoria do ethos discursivo. Os resultados mostraram que a construção do ethos se dará, geralmente, de forma positiva em tal gênero e, quando ocorre o contrário, os argumentos utilizados não corroborarão com a imagem que esses alunos tentarão passar. Procuram justificar o comportamento negativo, recorrendo, assim, ao lado emotivo do avaliador.

This paper aims to investigate how university students, enrolled in an English course, build their image through self-evaluation. For this purpose, the study developed by Amossy (2005) and Maingueneau (2008) on the theory of ethos will be considered. The results showed that the construction of ethos in this genre will usually happen in a positive way, and when the opposite happens, the arguments used will not legitimize the image they try to build. The students try to justify their negative behavior appealing, thus, to the emotional side of the evaluator.
