Abstract
Understanding racism as something structured in our society and, at the same time, starting from an ethical and political commitment and also understanding the need to foster greater dialogues on the dimensions of race, racism and racial relations in Early Childhood Education, this research aimed to know the experiences of children's educators from the municipal network of the city of Teixeiras - MG in relation to racism in the school context, as well as to sensitize them to act in the proposition of an anti-racist education. Anchored in the social constructionist proposal that people produce meanings from the relationship with the other, in this research we seek to focus on the reflections produced collectively by the group. For the construction of this work, in addition to a theoretical study bringing crucial terms and concepts to understand racism, its implications in the educational context and the fundamental role of educators in facing this violence, an online questionnaire was made available via Google Forms and two workshops via Google Meet with early childhood educators in the municipality of Teixeiras- MG. In the first stage (completion of the questionnaire), we had the participation of 1 educator and 24 educators who work with children. In the second stage, two workshops were held: the 1st workshop, with the participation of 40 people. The 2nd workshop had 25 participants. With regard to experiences of racism, many situations experienced and/or witnessed inside and outside the school environment were reported in the questionnaires and, mainly, in the workshops, demonstrating how racism is still strong in our relationships and that these situations did not go unnoticed by the group. Another relevant point to be highlighted is that, based on the reports of one of the educators, we were able to glimpse how much ra cism causes indelible marks in the lives of black people. Regarding awareness, recognizing the need for anti-racist education and believing that it is possible are crucial points for educators to be able to raise awareness and move against this system of oppression that is racism. Although some educators have demonstrated that they have overcome the first point – understanding the need for an anti-racist education – it is still necessary to overcome the hopelessness on the part of others. Finally, we highlight the fundamental role of school institutions in the fight against racism, we emphasize that it is essential that educators have more training to deal with the subject and we emphasize the need for collective work at the municipal, state and federal levels, that enables changes in the school environment, as racism is a structural problem and for its disruption a union is needed aimed at building an anti-racist educational system. Keywords: Anti-racist Education. Social Constructionism. Child education. Training of educators.
