(doenças raras no inverno) e à mancha-de-alternária.
melhoramento. Diversas linhagens SUG, do tipo pintado, provenientes do Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical, revelaram-se promissoras e' merecem novas testagens.
Eight yield trials including large-seeded common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) oultivars, mainly of Cranberryis class, were carried out at six municipalities of Minas Gerais State. All trials but one were conducted under the fall-winter conditions. Many cultivars had a good performance, but Diacol Calima was the most prominent since it showed a high yielding capability and resistance to the following diseases: angular leaf spot, rust, anthracnose and powdery mildew. However, it was susceptible to web biight, gray leaf spot (both rare diseases in the southeast of Brazil), and alternaria leaf spot. It has a determinate growth habit and is relatively precocious. Seed color and size, however, do not make Diacol Calima an easily acceptable commercial type. Antioquia 8 also stood out, principally because of its disease resistance; it is nota commercial type, but it can be used in breeding programs. Several SUG lines introduced from the “Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical”(CIAT) were promising and need further tests.
