Abstract
Pandemia. Divisão sociossexual e racial do trabalho. Maternidade. Capitalismo.
In 2020 and 2021, the world experienced the so-called process of social isolation, in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. Drastic changes were witnessed, from restrictions on social interaction, the high number of deaths, to profound changes in the conditions of work development, the central theme of this study. This research analyzed the strategies for reconciling professional and family responsibilities adopted by technical-administrative employees of the Federal University of Viçosa, with children enrolled in Early Childhood Education, during the period of remote work. To this end, the specific objectives consisted of: identifying the conditions of work, carried out remotely, by these employees during the Covid-19 pandemic; investigating how these employees developed their professional work from their homes; verifying the challenges of mothers who are employees when dealing with the non-face-to-face education of their children; understanding the process of returning to face-to-face work for these mothers; emerging demands that arose during this period in relation to remote work. To meet the proposed objectives, a qualitative study of an exploratory and descriptive-critical nature was carried out, using a critical-dialectical theoretical-methodological framework, a compass that guided the successive approaches in the process of understanding the reality to be researched. Data collection was carried out in two stages, with the application of a questionnaire followed by semi-structured interviews. The content analysis technique was used to analyze the data, with the aid of the Iramuteq software. The results found point to the still presence of old and socio-historical inequalities in the sexual division of labor, as well as the advent of new challenges to female labor, such as the overload in relation to reproductive work carried out by women during the pandemic. Furthermore, they were the main ones responsible for the work of teaching their children during their remote education. Despite feeling overwhelmed with domestic and childcare duties, the employees considered the experience of remote work to be positive, given that they were able to spend more time and be more present in their children's lives. This experience led them to recognize that it is possible to carry out their work in a hybrid manner, strengthening their hope for the future implementation of this work modality by the institution. Keywords: Remote work. Pandemic. Sociosexual and racial division of labor. Maternity. Capitalism.
