This study intends to perform a revisionist reading of Canadian Margaret Laurence’s The Diviners (1993) by highlighting its connections with the ecocritical approach. I believe Laurence’s novel, as it has occurred with the dawning of post-colonialism, paves the way to considerations related not only to literature as a tool for exposing the misuse of the environment, but rather for providing criticism with the power of identifying the contextual character of nature’s constitution, therefore embracing it on the same level as man’s projection in the story. I will focus in especial in the carnivalesque figure of Chris Logan in terms of his satirical interpretation of the town’s waste and its people’s profile. I will rely on ecocritical studies by Glotfelty and Fromm (1996) and Hutcheon (1991) in that the postcolonial discussion and parody are at stake.
