Abstract
This essay aims to point one of the possible causes of a very common (non)reaction in the school sphere: the student apathy. Often, it is charged a participatory approach of the students, but the reflections on our own conduct as teacher-researchers are rare. It is narrated an episode illustrating the issue of “error upon error”, which can lead to the stunting of skills that should be required from a student in training. Some pedagogical practices are questioned in teaching mother tongue beneath the accumulation of factors that contribute to school failure
