Memória e toponímias: uma análise da paisagem cultural no município de Ubá - MG

Abstract

A presente investigação ocorreu durante o Mestrado Profissional em Patrimônio Cultural, Paisagens e Cidadania e refere-se à análise da paisagem cultural da cidade de Ubá, Minas Gerais, sob a perspectiva das toponímias. Por meio da apreciação do contexto histórico-geográfico da cidade, foi desenvolvida algumas reflexões acerca da nomeação de vinte e sete nomes de ruas pertencentes à zona central. A paisagem do município é reflexo da ação de grupos sociais influentes os quais grafaram nela seu poderio e prestígio social. A memória social neste trabalho então, é discutida no âmbito da sua representação oficial, ou seja, almejou-se destacar quais grupos sociais exerceram influência política e econômica a ponto de deixarem marcados seus nomes e de seus parentes mais próximos nas ruas da área central da cidade. Entende-se que os nomes da área central possuem um destaque especial, visto que estão geograficamente localizados em uma área de prestígio dos munícipes onde se desenvolvem boa parte das relações de convívio social como lazer e trabalho, daí a importância desta área para o presente estudo. A memória enquanto algo socialmente construído reflete as relações de poder concebidas no espaço, sendo ela grafada na paisagem por meio de símbolos e signos que representem os conflitos existentes nessas relações. Assim, este trabalho contribui para os estudos de paisagem cultural, proporcionando uma nova perspectiva na sua interpretação, e compreensão dela como fator essencial na constituição de memórias.

The following research has happened during the professional master on Cultural Heritage, Landscapes and Citizenry at UFV, and it refers to the review of cultural landscape of the city of Uba, in Minas Gerais state, in Brazil, according to toponymy perspective. Through the appreciation of the city historic-geographic context, it was developed some reflections about the nomination of twenty seven cities names, which belong to the central area. The municipality landscape is an echo of social groups which imprint on it their both power and social prestigious. Having said that, social memory in this research will be discussed around official representations, pointing out which social groups have influenced both politics and local economy in order to let their names imprinted nearby central streets in the city. We understand that the names in the central area of Uba have a special highlight, once they are geographically localized in a prestigious neighborhood where citizens develop an notorious part of their social relation such as labour and leisure. That’s why the importance of this are to this research. Memory, as something socially built, reflects relations of power designed on the space. Therefore, memories are imprinted on the landscape through symbols and signs that represent conflicts which describe these relations. Thereby, this research aims at contributing to landscape studies, other than providing a new perspective about its interpretation and comprehension as a crucial element about memories construction.
