Representações de ciência e cientistas no filme Terra à Deriva e o seu papel na formação do imaginário científico

Abstract

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo identificar as principais representações de ciência e de cientistas presentes no filme chinês Terra à Deriva e analisar como essas visões contribuem para a formação de um imaginário social sobre a ciência e a atividade científica, partindo do pressuposto de que as produções culturais influenciam as trajetórias dos sujeitos em seu percurso formativo. Trata-se de uma pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, que envolve uma análise bibliográfica combinada à análise fílmica, buscando aprofundar a compreensão do papel formador do Cinema na veiculação de elaborações sobre a ciência, que podem aproximar o conhecimento científico de um público mais amplo ou reproduzir o saber de senso- comum. Os eixos temáticos para a análise fílmica foram baseados nas principais representações encontradas na literatura e a partir de questões apresentadas pelo próprio filme. Sendo eles: a ciência e a tecnologia como salvadoras da humanidade, que explora como o avanço científico torna-se crucial em momentos de crise; a ciência como processo coletivo, que discute sobre a cooperação no trabalho científico; a discussão sobre ética e ciência, abordando principalmente sobre as tomadas de decisão e o uso da inteligência artificial; a figura do cientista herói, que explora o arquétipo do cientista salvador da humanidade; os erros e acertos que revelam o lado humano da ciência e as fraquezas inerentes ao trabalho humano e, por fim, as relações de gênero dentro da ciência, que aponta para a invisibilização do papel feminino dentro da ciência. Conclui-se que a ciência é um empreendimento social, contextualizado e que há a necessidade de superar a fragmentação entre as “Duas Culturas” (Exatas e Humanidades), sendo o cinema um poderoso meio de comunicação de massa que, como produto humano e ideológico, atua diretamente na moldagem e formação do imaginário científico dos sujeitos. The present work aimed to identify the main representations of science and scientists in the Chinese film The Wandering Earth and to analyze how these views contribute to the formation of a social imaginary about science and scientific activity, based on the assumption that cultural productions influence individuals’ trajectories throughout their educational development. This is a qualitative study involving a bibliographic analysis combined with film analysis, seeking to deepen the understanding of the formative role of cinema in disseminating interpretations of science that may either bring scientific knowledge closer to a broader audience or reproduce common-sense notions. The thematic axes for film analysis were based on the primary representations found in the literature and issues raised by the film itself. These include: science and technology as saviors of humanity, exploring how scientific advancement becomes crucial in moments of crisis; science as a collective process, discussing cooperation in scientific work; ethics and science, especially in relation to decision-making and the use of artificial intelligence; the figure of the scientist-hero, examining the archetype of the scientist who saves humanity; errors and successes that reveal the human side of science and the inherent weaknesses of human labor; and, finally, gender relations within science, highlighting the invisibility of women’s contributions in scientific contexts. It is concluded that science is a social and contextual endeavor, and that there is a need to overcome the fragmentation between the “Two Cultures” (Sciences and Humanities). Cinema, as a powerful mass communication medium and as a human and ideological product, directly influences the shaping and formation of individuals’ scientific imaginary.
