A total of 94 bean cultivars and lines were tested in Viçosa and Coimbra, Zona da Mata area, state of Minas Gerais, in six yield trials, each with 36 treatments, carried out dunring six years at the fall-winter planting time. Antióquia 8, Ricopardo 896, Ouro Negro and Vermelho 2157 were used as check cultiivars. Angular leaf spot and rust were the most constant disease in the trials. Bean life cycle was increased about 20 days in relation to the traditional cultivation times (spring-summer and summer-fall). Check cultivars, the lines AN 730116 and CB 733780, and the cultivars Pérola, Aporé and Diacol Calima stood out as the most productive Several lines (Vi. Series) of the black, red and carioca typesd, which were created at the Federal University of Viçosa, showed to be promising.
