Abstract
Recent research on incubators highlights a constant concern with addressing the question: "How can incubators achieve long-term financial sustainability from an operational perspective?". This study reinforces this analysis, but focuses on the financial sustainability of incubators in the State of Amazonas as it is a region marked by specific logistical and economic challenges. The qualitative research, with an interpretivist approach, adopts a multiple case study design, investigating eight incubators in Amazonas through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and document analysis. The data analysis reveals strategies for resource management, revenue diversification, and the crucial role of strategic partnerships in ensuring the financial sustainability of the incubators. This study contributes to the literature on incubators' financial sustainability and offers practical recommendations for managers aimed at optimizing resource management and strengthening strategic partnerships. The social and economic implications emphasize the underexplored role of incubators in supporting entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as their impact on fostering the local economy and improving the quality of life in communities. To fulfill this mission, incubators must first ensure their performance and financial sustainability. Keywords: business incubators; financial sustainability; development; amazonas; case study.
