Abstract
This work, stemming from the author's concerns and reflections, exposes, through a historical overview, the conception of dissident sexualities during the Portuguese colonization period and the vehement influence of Christian dogmas and morality in the persecution of people who committed the unspeakable sin. The general objective of this research is to investigate the process of creation and implementation of the LGBT+ Reference and Reception Center in the municipality of Ouro Preto/MG, as well as its advances and challenges. This is an eminently qualitative and exploratory study, which also used bibliographic and documentary research to elaborate discussions about the capitalist mode of production and the emergence of social policies. Furthermore, it highlights how Brazil is inserted into the global capitalist dynamic – dependent and peripheral – and the repercussions of this for the conformities and particularities of Brazilian social policies, especially LGBT+ policies. For data collection, we conducted face-to-face interviews with seven of the twelve workers at the center. The data were analyzed using critical analysis, taking the theme into consideration. The results obtained from the research conducted at the LGBT+ Reference and Support Center in Ouro Preto/Minas Gerais demonstrate that this service represents progress in promoting and defending the rights of LGBT+ people. The center aims to be a safe and welcoming place where people can report violence and violations suffered, be referred to health services and other resources in the social assistance network, receive guidance, access benefits provided by social services, and participate in artistic and cultural activities. Keywords: human rights lgbt+ ; social struggles; lgbt+ social policy.
