Abstract
Many ecosystems have been converted or degraded by human action. The restoration of these ecosystems is essential for the strategy of biodiversity conservation and ecological functions of them and must be considered an integral component of landscape management. The objective of this work was to perform a diagnosis of restoration initiative of degraded areas at IF Sudeste MG –campusRio Pomba from 2010 to 2017 in relation to criteria of species selection, management and monitoring, in order to enhance future actions. The areas were identified through interviews with professors and technicians of the institute linked to the study of biodiversity. Later, field visits and bibliographic research were used to collect data regarding the practices used in the recovery. Respecting the particularity of each area and the objectives of each restoration initiative, it is possible to say that the initiatives partially reached the requisites of species choose; native, primary and not primary and fruit trees. However, it isnoted that the species selection can be made in a more carefully way, prioritizing local flora species and that management and monitoring of areas need to be part of a institutional program that connect teaching, research and extension . These initiatives need to ripen not just about the ecological bases, but also at the interface between the restoration itself, the social benefits and public politics related to it.
