Abstract

Objective: Investigate the pre-exercise hydration status in young athletes in junior categories. Methodology: Before the beginning of session training, the urine of 51 male athletes aged between 11 and 15 years was collected in a sample and the degree of their coloration was analyzed, based on The Urine Color Chart® adapted from Armstrong et al (1994). Results: Of these athletes, 66,5% were in a slightly dehydrated state and only 29,5% were considered well hydrated. Conclusion: Young athletes from the junior categories in soccer are arriving at training sites with inadequate hydration, thus impairing their performance during training, and after the games.
