Abstract
Acute pain caused by care procedures can contribute to patients' tendency to avoid certain treatments and procedures. Nurses must be able to recognize the risk factors for acute pain and plan nursing care to preventing, minimizing or eliminating the painful experience. This study aimed to map the possible risk factors for acute pain, related to nursing care in adults. To achieve this objective, a scoping review was conducted following the methodology of the Joanna Briggs Institute. The review protocol was registered with the Open Science Framework: DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/JCA9P. Studies with adults that explored risk factors for acute pain in the context of nursing care, in all languages and without time constraint, were included. The review included 48 articles, and the risk factors were organized into seven categories: management of invasive devices, patient mobilization and positioning, wound care management, administration of solutions or medications, body hygiene care, tracheal aspiration, immobilization, and infiltration/extravasation of solutions or medications. The risk factors grouped under the category “Management of invasive devices” were the most cited (54.2%), followed by “Mobilization and positioning of the patient” (31.2%) and “Management of wound care” (29.2%). The evidence obtained in this review indicates the main risk factors for acute pain in adults in the context of nursing care, especially the management of invasive devices, mobilization and positioning of the patient, and management and care of wounds. It is hoped that health teams will be able to recognize risk factors early on and adopt preventive measures, reducing the occurrence of adverse events related to nursing practice. Keywords: nursing; nursing diagnoses; acute pain
