Abstract
Rainfall is one of the most important variables for agricultural activity with spatial and temporal variability due to geographic location and atmospheric phenomena. Thus, the objective of this study was to identify the influence of geographic factors and atmospheric phenomena that contribute to the spatiotemporal variability of rainfall from the littoral to the semiarid region of Pernambuco state. Climatic norms of precipitation were used in 11 municipalities of the state of Pernambuco, coming from the National Institute of Meteorology. The monthly and annual values were related to the geographic data through regression analysis, and their trends were associated with regional atmospheric phenomena. It was verified that there was a significant relation of the altitude, when the data of Recife city and its longitude were not considered; data of Triunfo were despised, with the annual rainfall and most of the monthly data (p < 0.10). These trends are associated with penetrations of frontal systems and the positioning of the Intertropical Convergence Zone in the Brazilian northeast. It was concluded that the pluviometric gradients from the littoral to the semiarid of Pernambuco are explained by the relief variation.
