The present dissertation promotes a discursive analysis of Gabriel Comicholi's videos on his YouTube channel, HDiário, in which he reveals that he lives with HIV and reports his experiences with the virus. This study aimed at investigating how HIV and seropositive people are portrayed in their mediatized life narratives. In this regard, this research adopted a theoretical framework of HIV, life narratives, self-videographies, biographical space, publicizing of the private, as well as some Semiolinguistics concepts, from Patrick Charaudeau, which were adopted as analytical categories, such as the restrictions and the communication contract strategies and the socio discursive imaginaries. The main results have suggested Gabriel exposes his serological condition, his intimate and the everyday life to inform, educate and raise awareness about that topic which is not addressed on the internet or is treated in the wrong way. By doing so he also aims at gaining visibility and help both for himself and for other people living with HIV. He addresses particularly to those people and places himself as a militant and representative of the group, although he does not identify himself as seropositive. However, the YouTuber founds his right to the word on his life with the virus, drawing on his experiences and, thus, using his reports as a form of legitimacy, but also credibility and capture. He also uses images, scientific knowledge, and a more relaxed tone, among other language resources. Concerning the imaginaries, Comicholi uses several of them, refuting or reinforcing them, such as those who associate HIV with death, illness, promiscuity, irresponsibility, infidelity, sex, suffering, young people, and homosexuals. And when creating an image for himself, he also creates an image for the seropositive group, placing them as sick, guilty, careless, incapable, and accommodated. All the triggered imaginary have pejorative valuations and most of them are engendered by beliefs, including those which have been reformulated by the medical domain, but that are still present in common sense. Hence it is believed that there is a discursive epidemic with so many stereotypes about HIV still contaminating the social imagination. Keywords: HIV. HDiário. Life narrative. Socio-discursive imaginaries.
