The research was conducted in family-farming coffee plantations located in the Pedra Redonda community, in the municipality of Araponga, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The coffee plantations evaluated were an organic agroforestry system under natural farming (SAFN), an organic agroforestry system (SAFo), an organic full-sun system (PSo), and a conventional full-sun system (PSc). The first chapter evaluated floristic composition and vegetation structure and identified plant species that are important food resources for frugivorous birds. A total of 288 individuals belonging to 26 plant species were recorded. SAFN presented the highest floristic richness, diversity, and structural complexity. The species Cecropia glaziovii, Hyptidendron asperrimum, Aspidosperma pyrifolium, and Myrsine coriacea were important food resources for birds. The second chapter analyzed the diversity, occurrence frequency, and feeding frequency of frugivorous birds. Over 180 hours of observation, 17 species were identified. SAFN presented greater richness, heterogeneity, and structural balance in the plant community and was, consequently, the system with the highest number of birds feeding events. The native species Cecropia glaziovii, H. asperrimum, A. pyrifolium, and M. coriacea were important food resources for birds. The strong correlation between bird occurrence and feeding activity demonstrates the importance of food resources for bird persistence in coffee systems. Agroforestry systems presented higher values of bird occurrence and feeding activity and were the only systems in which Psittacara leucophthalmus (White-eyed Parakeet), Primolius maracana (Blue- winged Macaw), and Pteroglossus aracari (Black-necked Aracari), medium- and large-sized bird species, were recorded. Increasing plant diversity, the presence of native tree species, and the structural complexity of coffee plantations favored the maintenance of frugivorous birds, and it is also expected the provision of important ecosystem services, such as seed dispersal, and vegetation regeneration.
