A “Folha Universal” em contexto eleitoral: as eleições presidenciais de 2010, 2014, 2018 e 2022

Abstract

Este artigo é uma análise do posicionamento político da Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus (IURD) nas campanhas presidenciais dos anos de 2010, 2014, 2018 e 2022. A fonte de pesquisa foi o jornal “Folha Universal”, informativo semanal da IURD. Realizamos a análise dos conteúdos das edições circunscritas ao período eleitoral de cada eleição específica, a partir dos calendários disponibilizados pelo Tribunal Superior Eleitoral. A pesquisa demonstra que as pautas, bem como as alianças políticas, sofreram alterações efetivas ao longo das quatro eleições. Nossa pesquisa revela que o jornal tende a explicitar preferências políticas ao longo do segundo turno das eleições, o que indica pragmatismo político. Além disso, a análise aponta que, em comparação às três eleições anteriores, em 2022 a “Folha Universal” dedicou maior engajamento no apoio a Bolsonaro, demonstrando incisiva atuação da IURD na política partidária.

This articleis an analysis of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (known in Brazil by the Portuguese acronym “IURD”) political position in the presidential campaigns of 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022. The research source was the IURD’s weekly newspaper: “Folha Universal”. We analyzed the contents of editions circumscribed to the electoral period of each specific election, based on the calendars made available by the Superior Electoral Court. The research demonstratesthat the agendas, as well as political alliances,underwent effective changes throughout the four elections. Our research reveals that the newspaper tends to make political preferences explicit throughout the second round of elections, which indicates political pragmatism. Furthermore, the analysis points that in 2022, “Folha Universal” dedicated the greatest engagement in support of a candidate (Bolsonaro) compared to the three previous elections, which demonstrates incisive action in party politics.
