Abstract
Cylinder head of internal combustion engines are one of the most under-worn components of the automotive power generation system. Thus, it becomes pertinent to study the techniques used for the recovery of the appropriate dimensions for their perfect functioning. This work aims to analyze the surface quality generated on the underside of an aluminum alloy head, after filling processes by welding operations in regions that have suffered wear and subsequent planning machining process. Roughness, hardness and metallography measurements were performed in the unfilled and filled regions by the TIG welding process and subsequently flattened. The presence of filler metal did not affect the finish of the machined surface and the regions that received filler presented higher ductility and porosity defects. This context makes the component more susceptible to wear in the filled regions.
