Abstract
Introduction: Football is on continuous evolution. In the tactic part, one of the most recent changes is the new type of behavior made by the goalkeeper, who should expand its defensive and offensive functions, thus requiring a new dynamic of movement. The goalkeepers topped exercising the unique role previously established: avoid the opponent's goal. Therefore, started to perform beyond the lines that outline the 18-yard box and started to collaborate in all phases of the game. Objective: Establish the total distances covered by the goalkeepers during the FIFA World Cup 2018 games. Methodology: The data of the distance covered by the goalkeepers in the 2018 World Cup werobtained through the FIFA official website, which was made available to the public after each match. The following individual information was offered for each player per match, like the time played in minutes, the number of games played, the values in kilometers of the total distance covered by the goalkeepers (DTP), the values of the distance covered with and without the ball and the total number of passes. The goalkeepers of the 32 participant teams of the World Cup were analyzed. The total distance covered by the athletes were analyzed in 64 games and 96 athletes were analyzed, all of them are goalkeepers. Results: The average of the results per game of the total distance covered by the goal keepers was 3.959 ± 0.913 Km, having the maximum value the English player Jordan PICKFORD (5.843 Km) and as the minimum value the Tunisian player Mouez HASSEN (0.600 Km). The average of the displacement with the ball was 1.399± 0.420 Km, having the maximum value the German player Manuel NEUER (2.267 Km) and as the minimum value the Tunisian player Mouez HASSEN (0.200 Km) and without the ball 2.561± 0.637 Km having the maximum value the Icelandic player Hannes HALLDORSSON (4.00 Km) and as the minimum value the Tunisian player Mouez HASSEN (0.400 Km). Conclusion: The goalkeepers during the 2018 FIFA World Cup traveled around 4 km during each match. And the displacement with the ball was 1.4 Km and without the ball was 2.6 Km and the number of passes was 26 per match on average.
