Haitianismo e percepção da Revolução Haitiana na sociedade escravista brasileira do século XIX

Abstract

Neste trabalho analisamos o impacto da Revolução Haitiana sobre as sociedades escravistas do Mundo Atlântico, particularmente o Brasil. Realizamos a leitura de uma historiografia que, revisando os eventos, percebe o seu caráter sociorracial e as repercussões do movimento. Por meio de um trabalho de revisão historiográfica e leitura de fontes primárias trazidas à discussão pelos próprios autores, estudamos os eventos ocorridos no Haiti e a reação dos escravizados e das elites senhoriais brasileiras a partir do que ouviam e entendiam sobre os eventos no Haiti. Esse fenômeno chamado à época de Haitianismo foi por nós usado como elemento central, consistindo a pesquisa de leitura e fichamento das obras e análise de documentos da época, focando na repressão desenvolvida pela elite branca amedrontada pela possibilidade de revoltas negras como aquela ocorrerem no Brasil também. Procuramos perceber como as próprias pessoas escravizadas e livres de cor ressignificaram sua luta em um contexto novo que se abria em todo o Mundo Atlântico. Nossa atenção se volta também à maneira como se criou mecanismos de repressão e silenciamento desses grupos, permanecendo em nossa cultura como estigmas sociais profundos, os quais às vezes passam despercebidos. Esse trabalho foi desenvolvido como pesquisa de iniciação científica em nível médio no âmbito do programa PIBIC-EM 2020-2021 do CNPq.

In this work we analyze the impact of the Haitian Revolution on the slave societies of the Atlantic World, particularly that of Brazil. We read a historiography that, reviewing the events, perceives its socio-racial character and the repercussions of the movement. Through a work of historiographical review and the reading of primary sources worked by the authors themselves, we studied the events that took place in Haiti and the reaction of the en slaved and free people of color in face of the Brazilian lordly elites from the information they heard about of the Haiti events. This phenomenon called Haitianism at the time was admitted by us as a central element, consisting of our research work in the reading and recording of the works and analysis of some documents of the time, focusing on the repression developed by the white elite frightened by the possibility of black revolts like that to occurin Brazil too. We seek to understand how the enslaved and free people of color resignified their struggle in a new context that opened up across the Atlantic World. Our attention turns also especially to how were created mechanisms of repression and silencing of those groups, something that remain nowadays in our culture as deep social stigmas, which sometimes go unnoticed. This work was developed as a scientific initiation research at a high school level within the scope PIBIC-EM 2020-2021 programby CNPq.
