Distribuição e desempenho de Tuta absoluta no dossel do tomateiro

Abstract

Os estudos da distribuição espacial e desempenho de insetos praga no dossel das plantas melhoram a qualidade dos planos de amostragem e aumentam a eficiência dos métodos de controle. Assim, neste trabalho objetivou-se avaliar a distribuição e o desempenho biológico dos estádios do ciclo de vida de Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) no dossel de plantas de tomate. A máxima oviposição de T. absoluta ocorreu nas folhas do terço mediano e entre os terços apical e mediano para plantas nos estádios vegetativo e reprodutivo, respectivamente. No início da fase larval o número de lagartas foi maior nas folhas do terço mediano. Com o passar do tempo o número de lagartas decresceu nas folhas medianas e aumentou nas apicais. Verificou-se que as lagartas que atacam os frutos são provenientes principalmente das folhas. A movimentação de lagartas das folhas para os frutos ocorreu a partir do terceiro ínstar larval. O principal local de pupação de T. absoluta foi o solo, sobretudo até 1,3 mm de profundidade. A pupação de T. absoluta foi maior em solo com cobertura morta. A taxa reprodutiva liquida (R0) de T. absoluta foi maior quando os insetos se desenvolveram em folhas do terço mediano. A maior oviposição de T. absoluta ocorreu em locais onde esta espécie apresenta maior taxa reprodutiva liquida.

Studies on spatial distribution of pests and performance in the canopy of plants improve the quality of sampling plans and increase the efficiency of control methods. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the distribution and biological performance of developmental stages of Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) in the canopy of tomato plants. The higher oviposition of T. absoluta occurred in the leaves of the median part and between the apical and median part for plants in the vegetative and reproductive stages, respectively. In the beginning of the larval stage the number of caterpillars was higher in the leaves of median part of tomatoes plants. Over time the number of caterpillars decreased in the median leaves and increased in the apical leaves. It was found that the caterpillars which attack the fruits originate mainly from the leaves. The movement of caterpillars from the leaves to the fruit happened when they reached the third instar. The primary site of pupation for T. absoluta was the soil, especially up to 1.3 mm deep. T. absoluta pupation was higher in soil with mulch. The net reproductive rate (R0) of T. absoluta was higher when the insects had developed in the leaves of median part. Most oviposition of T. absoluta occurred in places where this specie had higher net reproductive rate.
