This paper measured the technical efficiency of small rural units in São Paulo and Sorocaba regions to three different production systems: conventional; organic and not agroforestry; and agroforestry. The hypothesis was that all of the three production units can present potentially the same efficiency. It has used the stochastic frontier analysis to a production function. The results pointed out that the three production systems can be equally efficient and work at maximum efficiency, and that the agroforestry system was the most efficient out of the three, concerning the initial efficiency; besides, the organic system was the least advantageous. Among the inputs, labor presented the biggest impact on total outcome while capital had lesser impact. An increase in land quantity can benefit the total outcome, nevertheless can cause a reduction of unit efficiency.en
