INTRODUCTION: Throughout its history, field soccer has shown tactical variations in relation to offensive and defensive systems, evolving to better training models, tactical behaviors and knowledge of the rules. OBJECTIVE: To carry out a bibliographic review on the defensive system in field football and its tactical implications in current football. METHODOLOGY: The method of this study was an exploratory, descriptive and analytical research, based on a review of literature based on books and scientific articles that deal with zone marking in field soccer. RESULTS: The zone marking in field football aims to optimize the best spatial occupation of players, leaving the small field to the attacking opponent. It is fundamental the interaction between the players, the use of the resources of the technology to facilitate analysis of results and identification of problems between technique and tactical behavior, since they are directly related to the deficiencies of the adversary that influence in the different situations of game. The most adopted options in tactical systems are: 4-3-3, 4-4-2 and 3-5-2, with types of defense: individual in pairs; individual by sector and by zone being the most used today. Some game tactics in soccer can be improved, with an initial work in the group of athletes aiming the interaction between the players. The football professional must know and use technology as a tool to analyze the results, that is, this resource will facilitate the work of the technician in making decisions, identifying problems and thus offer more suitable alternatives and offer more chances in the solution of the existing conflicts between technique and tactical behavior and in the existing imbalances between technique and tactics. CONCLUSIONS: Tactical behaviors should always be updated in the zone-by-field marking of the field, with emphasis on turn monitoring, cooperation between attack/defense, ball challenge and space reduction, as well as the analysis of soccer games and Plans for the investigation of individual defensive and offensive indicators.
