O uso de verbos modalizadores em notícias on-line sobre manifestações políticas ocorridas no Brasil

Abstract

O presente trabalho se propôs a analisar como o uso dos verbos modalizadores opera na construção da linha argumentativa de notícias, gênero textual jornalístico. Foi realizada a análise descritivo-interpretativa dos verbos de opinião ou crença, verbos modalizadores epistêmicos, deônticos e dinâmicos e verbos dicendi modalizadores no nosso corpus, o qual é composto por 16 notícias sobre as manifestações contra os cortes na educação, ocorridas no Brasil no ano de 2019 e divulgadas pelas revistas Carta Capital e Veja e pelo portal de notícias G1. A argumentação está presente em todos os textos, inclusive nas notícias que, a nosso ver, possuem características de tipo textual argumentativo. Entendemos que as modalidades são recursos linguísticos que expressam os desejos, as crenças e as opiniões do falante, além de gerar efeito de afastamento ou de aproximação com o conteúdo enunciado, de forma que os modalizadores funcionam como pistas das estratégias argumentativas. Essas expressões podem, ainda, exprimir possibilidade, necessidade e obrigação. O recurso à intertextualidade também é uma estratégia argumentativa, e a inclusão de citações diretas e indiretas pode operar como discurso de autoridade. Devemos considerar, além disso, a forma como esses discursos são inseridos, a qual pode evidenciar os pontos de vista do enunciador ou indicar um caminho a seguir pelo leitor. Este trabalho é de cunho qualitativo e vale-se de resultados numéricos como base para a análise descritivo-interpretativa dos modalizadores utilizados na construção da argumentação dos textos jornalísticos. Para tal, buscamos identificar as recorrências dos verbos modalizadores encontrados no corpus, catalogá-las e quantificá-las; em seguida, classificamos as recorrências quanto ao tipo de modalidade e realizamos a análise, buscando evidenciar os aspectos argumentativos das notícias. Encontramos, ao longo das 16 notícias analisadas, 250 ocorrências de verbos modalizadores, a saber: 33 verbos de opinião ou crença, 29 verbos epistêmicos, 40 verbos deônticos e 12 verbos dinâmicos, além de 133 ocorrências de verbos dicendi modalizadores, utilizados na introdução de discursos de outrem. Após a análise descritivo-interpretativa dos valores modais, concluímos que a opção por um verbo ou outro evidencia os posicionamentos e as percepções do enunciador, indicando como as informações devem ser lidas. Ademais, também foi possível concluir que a utilização de falas de outros interlocutores é parte intrínseca às notícias jornalísticas. O recurso é utilizado tanto para contextualização dos fatos informados, quanto como argumento de autoridade, conferindo credibilidade ao conteúdo publicado. Por fim, destaca-se que a análise realizada sobre a modalidade enquanto estratégia argumentativa em notícias jornalísticas pode ser estendida a outros gêneros textuais que se inserem em nossa realidade social, educacional e política. Verbos modalizadores.This research aims to investigate how the usage of modal verbs operates in the construction of the argumentative line of news, a journalistic genre. The descriptive-interpretative analysis regarding verbs concerning opinion or belief, epistemic, deontic and dynamic modal verbs and dicendi modal verbs in our corpus was carried out. Formed out of 16 news articles about protests against the financial cuts towards the education system in Brazil in the year 2019 and published by Carta Capital and Veja magazines and the G1 news online portal. The argumentation is present in all texts, including in news that, in our view, possess characteristics of an argumentative textual type. Concluded that the modalities are linguistic resources that express the speaker's desires, beliefs, and opinions, generating a distancing or approximation impression with the enunciated so that the modalizer function as clues to the argumentative strategies. These expressions can also express possibility, necessity and obligation. The use of intertextuality is also an argumentative strategy, and the inclusion of direct and indirect quotations can operate as a discourse of authority. We must also consider how these speeches are inserted, which can highlight the points of view of the enunciator or indicate a path for the reader to follow. This work is qualitative and uses quantitative results as a basis for the descriptive-interpretative analysis of the modalizers used in the conception of the argumentation of journalistic texts. To this end, we seek to identify the recurrences of the modality verbs found in the corpus, catalog them and quantify them; then, we classified the recurrences according to the type of modality and performed the analysis, seeking to highlight the argumentative aspects of the news. We found, over the 16 analyzed articles, 250 occurrences of modal verbs, namely: 33 verbs of opinion or belief, 29 epistemic verbs, 40 deontic verbs, and 12 dynamic verbs, in addition to 133 occurrences of modal dicendi verbs, used in the introduction of somebody else's speeches. After the descriptive-interpretative analysis of the modal values, we conclude that the option for one verb or another evidences the enunciator's positions and perceptions, indicating how the reading of the information should happen. Furthermore, it was also possible to conclude that the use of speeches by other interlocutors is an intrinsic part of journalistic news. This resource can be used as a way of contextualizing specific facts reported, as well as an argument of authority, giving credibility to the published content. Ultimately, emphasis must be given to the analysis carried out on the modality as an argumentative strategy in journalistic news can be extended to other genres inserted in our social, educational, and political reality.
