Do folhetim ao best-seller: a construção narrativa de Dragões de Éter de Raphael Draccon

Abstract

A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo a análise dos romances da saga Dragões de Éter – com ênfase em Caçadores de Bruxas e comentários sumários aos outros volumes -, publicada pelo autor brasileiro Raphael Draccon entre 2007 e 2020. A investigação visa descobrir quais os fatores que fizeram com que as obras alcançassem o status de best-seller, considerando que foram vendidos 600 mil exemplares no Brasil. Nesse sentido, iniciamos a pesquisa por meio de uma análise da literatura fantástica e da fantasia, e partiu-se do pressuposto de que características do gênero a que os romances pertencem, a fantasia imersiva de temática épica, podem ter influenciado o sucesso da obra, e como tal, foram analisadas os principais traços do gênero – como a presença do sobrenatural, a relação com o real, a existência de mundos secundários, a construção dos personagens, etc. – e a maneira como se manifestaram na saga. Além disso, foi explorado o conceito de best-seller, os aspectos que marcam as obras que carregam esse título, os romances-folhetim enquanto precursores dessas publicações, assim como conceitos importantes desse campo como Indústria Cultural e Cultura de Massa e os debates que os envolvem. Com base nessas investigações preliminares, por fim, foram apresentados alguns aspectos que possivelmente teriam propulsionado o fenômeno best-seller de Dragões de Éter, como a maneira como os capítulos são construídos e cortados, a facilitação psicológica, a nostalgia provocada pela intertextualidade, a utilização de arquétipos que agem no inconsciente do leitor, a forma como se estabelecem as relações entre o mundo mágico e o mundo real, dentre tantas outras características que identificadas na obra de Draccon. Dragões de Éter.The purpose of this research is to analyze the novels of Dragões de Éter saga - with an emphasis on Caçadores de Bruxas and comments on other volumes -, published by Brazilian author Raphael Draccon between 2007 and 2020. The investigation aims to find out what factors made the books achieve best-seller status, after 600,000 copies sold in Brazil. In this sense, we started the research through an analysis of fantastic literature and fantasy, it was assumed that characteristics of the novels’ genre, immersive epic high fantasy, may have influenced the success of the books, and as such, the main features of the genre were analyzed and the way they figured in the saga. For example the presence of the supernatural, the relationship with the real, the existence of secondary worlds, the creation of the characters, etc. Besides this, the concept of best-seller was explored, the features that belong to novels that carry this title, the feuilleton as precursor of these publications, the Cultural Industry and Mass Culture and the debates that surround those concepts. Based on these preliminary investigations, we presented some aspects that possibly propelled the best-seller phenomenon of Dragões de Éter, such as the way chapters are built and cut, the psychological facilitation of writing, the nostalgia provoked by intertextuality, the use of archetypes that act on the reader's unconscious, the way that relationships between the magical world and the real world are established, among many other characteristics that were identified in Draccon's novels.
