Determinantes do desempenho no ENEM dos concluintes do ensino médio no município de Viçosa – MG

Abstract

Este trabalho investiga os determinantes que influenciam o desempenho no ENEM entre os alunos da cidade mineira de Viçosa entre os anos de 2015 e 2017. A pesquisa utiliza os microdados do ENEM dos alunos concluintes do ensino médio na modalidade regular que, ao preencherem o formulário socioeconômico, informaram a escola, a escolaridade dos pais e a renda familiar e estiveram presentes nos dois dias de prova. Além disso, limitou-se a amostra para alunos entre 16 e 25 anos. Para isso utilizou-se um modelo de regressão hierárquica capaz de captar a correlação entre os alunos da mesma escola em três níveis, com intercepto aleatório: o primeiro referente ao aluno, o segundo referente à escola e o terceiro referente ao ano. Como os resultados, verificou-se que os alunos da rede estadual obtiveram um desempenho médio de 207 pontos, inferior aos alunos da rede federal, e de 122 pontos comparados às escolas particulares. Entretanto, comparadas as notas entre os estudantes da mesma dependência administrativa, as notas dos alunos de Viçosa superaram as notas dos estudantes de Minas Gerais, do Brasil e de cidades com perfil semelhante. Ao estimar o modelo de regressão hierárquica, percebe-se que no modelo nulo a variação entre as escolas explica 60% do desempenho escolar dos alunos. Quando inseridas as variáveis de controle, este índice cai para 5,4%, reduzindo o percentual da variância total explicada pelo tipo de escola, evidenciando a importância do nível do aluno para explicar o desempenho escolar. Entre as variáveis que explicam o desempenho ao nível do aluno são significantes a idade, raça e o sexo do estudante. Já das variáveis que medem o family background se destacam a renda familiar, a alta escolaridade da mãe e o acesso à internet. Por fim a dependência administrativa das escolas se mostra como principal determinante para o desempenho dos estudantes. Palavras-Chave: ENEM. Modelos Hierárquicos. Viçosa. Educação.This master’s thesis investigates the determinants that influence the student’s performance in the ENEM in Viçosa-MG between the years 2015 and 2017. The research uses the ENEM micro data of the high school graduates in the regular modality that, when filled out the form, informed the school, parents' schooling and family income and were present during both days of the test. In addition, the sample was limited to students between 16 and 25 years of age. For this, it was used a hierarchical regression model able to capture the correlation between the students of the same school in three levels with random intercept: the first referred to the student, the second concerned to the school and the third one alluded to the year. As results, it was verified that the students of public school obtained an average performance of 207 points inferior to the students of the federal school, and of 122 points compared to the private schools. However, compared to the grades among students in the same administrative unit, students' grades in Viçosa exceeded the grades of students from Minas Gerais, from Brazil and from the cities with similar profiles. When estimating the hierarchical regression model, it can be seen that in the null model the variation between the schools explains 60% of the students' school performance. When the control variables are inserted, this ratio drops to 5.4%, reducing the percentage of the variance explained by the type of school, evidencing the importance of the student level to explain the school performance. Among the variables that explain the school performance, at the student level are significant, the student's age, race and gender, and the variables that measure the family background stand out the family income, the high schooling of the mother and the access to the internet.
