Item Combining ability of grain sorghum lines selected for aluminum tolerance(Brazilian Society of Plant Breeding, 2013-12-03) Menezes, Cicero Beserra; Carvalho Júnior, Geraldo Afonso de; Silva, Lidianne Assis; Bernardino, Karine Costa; Souza, Vander Fillipe; Tardin, Flávio Dessaune; Schaffert, Robert EugeneThe purpose of this study was to estimate combining ability of 58 sorghum lines previously selected for Aluminum (Al) toler- ance. One hundred sixty-five hybrids were evaluated at three levels of Al saturation (0%, 20% and 50%) at the same season. General Combining Ability (GCA) effects were significant for female lines for all three traits. GCA effects for male lines were significant only for plant height. Specific Combining Ability (SCA) effects were significant only for flowering time. The ratio GCA to SCA was greater than the unity, indicating the prevalence of additive effects for the control of Al tolerance. F7, F14, F17, F20, F21, F24, F29, F31, F41, F42, F48, F51, F54 and F55 lines contributed to increase yield, while F29, F48 and F51 also contributed to reduce flowering time. M2 was the best male line since it contributed to increase yield and plant height, and to reduce flowering time. Este trabalho objetivou verificar a interferência de métodos de correção de estande na produtividade de 25 híbridos de sorgo granífero, em sete ambientes. Os métodos avaliados foram: sem correção, regra de três, covariância de estande médio e de estande ideal, Zuber, Cruz, Vencovsky & Cruz e correção estratificada, com base no agrupamento de genótipos. O coeficiente de correlação de Pearson foi utilizado para verificar a magnitude da influência de cada método, em relação aos dados sem correção. Os métodos de correção de estande baseados em covariância e de Vencovsky & Cruz reduziram o coeficiente de variação e apresentaram alta correlação com parâmetros de adaptabilidade e estabilidade dos híbridos, no entanto, estas diferenças não foram expressivas a ponto de justificarem a correção.Item Genetic evaluation of grain sorghum hybrids in Brazilian environments using the REML/BLUP procedure(Scientia Agricola, 2013-08-26) Almeida Filho, Janeo Eustáquio de; Resende, Marcos Deon Vilela de; Silva, Fabyano Fonseca e; Granato, Ítalo Stefanine Correia; Tardin, Flávio Dessaune; Menezes, Cicero Beserra deWhen it comes to recommending sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) cultivars, it is essential to carry out a genetic evaluation of the agronomic traits of promising genotypes from several common environments where the crop is cultivated. This study consisted of a genetic evaluation of 52 experimental grain sorghum hybrids and eight commercial cultivars. Hybrids were evaluated in 19 experiments representing the most varied cultivation conditions in Brazil. Traits of agronomic interest such as grain yield, flowering and plant height were analysed. Genotypic evaluation was performed following the REML/BLUP (Restricted Maximum Likelihood/Best Linear Unbiased Predictor) procedure; the MHPRVG (Harmonic Mean of Relative Performance of Genotypic Values) method was also employed to study stability and adaptability. Hybrids which stood out in terms of highest grain yield based on genotypic values, stability and adaptability were 0306037, 1G150, DKB 599, 0306039, 1G282 and 0307671. Of these, only 1G282 showed restrictions as to plant height. For flowering, experimental hybrids showed shorter cycles than commercial cultivars, confirming the efficiency of genetic improvement for this trait. With the analysis of grain yield considering days to flowering and plant height as covariates, it was observed that most of the hybrids of greater performance, showed grain yield to be positively influenced by plant height and days to flowering.Item Use of sorghum straw (Sorghum bicolor) for second generation ethanol production: pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis(Química Nova, 2013-04-04) Tavares, Gabriella Peterlini; Cardoso, Wilton Soares; Tardin, Flávio Dessaune; Queiroz, Paula Viana; Mota, Samuel Sampaio; Kasuya, Maria Catarina Megumi; Queiroz, José Humberto deAgronomic biomass yields of forage sorghum BRS 655 presented similar results to other energy crops, producing 9 to 12.6 tons/ha (dry mass) of sorghum straw. The objective of this study was to evaluate the lignocellulosic part of this cultivar in terms of its potential in the different unit processes in the production of cellulosic ethanol, measuring the effects of pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis. Three types of pre-treatments for two reaction times were conducted to evaluate the characteristics of the pulp for subsequent saccharification. The pulp pretreated by alkali, and by acid followed by delignification, attained hydrolysis rates of over 90%.Item Utilização de cobertura comestível na conservação pós-colheita de minimilho minimamente processado(Food Science and Technology, 2010-10) Queiroz, Valéria Aparecida Vieira; Queiroz, Luciano Rodrigues; Tardin, Flávio Dessaune; Pereira Filho, Israel Alexandre; Guedes, Estefânia de Oliveira; Lombardi, Cláudio Teixeira; Moraes, Érica AguiarMinimilhos obtidos das cultivares de milho Vivi, híbrido simples de endosperma doce em fase experimental, e AG 1051, híbrido duplo comercial, comum, foram revestidos com cobertura comestível de fécula de mandioca a 2 e 4% e armazenados a 5 ºC. Um tratamento controle, sem revestimento, foi utilizado nas mesmas condições. Foram realizadas análises físico-químicas a cada três dias, durante nove dias, e de perda de massa, diariamente, a partir do terceiro até o décimo segundo dia. Observou-se variação na acidez, no pH e nos teores de Sólidos Solúveis Totais (SST) das amostras ao longo do período de armazenamento. A cobertura com fécula de mandioca não influenciou na acidez e no pH do minimilho obtido da cultivar de milho Vivi, no final do armazenamento, porém elevou a acidez da cultivar AG 1051. De um modo geral, o revestimento com cobertura de fécula de mandioca foi eficiente na preservação da massa de minimilho, no armazenamento refrigerado a 5 ºC. O desempenho da cultivar experimental Vivi foi similar ao da cultivar comercial AG 1051 para as variáveis perda de massa (controle e cobertura a 4%) e acidez (cobertura a 2 e 4%) e melhor para a variável SST (cobertura a 2 e 4%).
