Entre morros e galpões: paisagem urbana industrial e memória operária em Ubá/MG (1980/2020)

Abstract

O objetivo do presente trabalho é analisar como o desenvolvimento da indústria moveleira transformou a paisagem cultural, identidades e memórias da cidade de Ubá, situada em uma região tradicionalmente rural. Através do procedimento metodológico, que realizou-se por meio de pesquisa exploratória, descritiva e explicativa, buscou-se entender como o processo histórico de formação do polo moveleiro e o fato de sua produção espacial apresentar características distintas de outros polos, impactaram na constituição de uma paisagem urbana específica, rica e complexa, onde os diferentes grupos sociais contribuem e são influenciados. Viabilizada pela existência de fontes primárias organizadas no Arquivo Histórico e Cultural de Ubá, a análise documental contou com jornais que abarcam todo o período em foco, acervo fotográfico e atas da Câmara Municipal que permitiram alcançar a percepção das hipóteses levantadas. Pautados na criticidade fundamental a um estudo científico, emergiu a necessidade de se estabelecer um diálogo entre o - patrimônio cultural - as memórias e identidades - individuais e coletivas - que, de forma complexa e intencional se ocultam diante da análise relativa aos estudos mais tradicionais da história urbana. Essa visão limitada e elitista da construção histórica vem sendo combatida por uma nova interpretação que privilegia novos atores e enfatiza uma memória verdadeiramente pública e plural. O recorte temporal destacado (1980-2020) coincidiu com o período de consolidação da atividade industrial na cidade e a formação de um arranjo produtivo local reconhecido como fundamental ao desenvolvimento econômico regional e de relevância nacional. Ao mesmo tempo, percebeu-se que foi durante este espaço cronológico, que o município apresentou transformações significativas explicitadas ao longo da pesquisa. Through the methodological procedure, carried out through exploratory, descriptive, and explanatory research, the aim was to understand how the historical process of the formation of the furniture pole and the fact that its spatial production presents distinct characteristics from other centers impacted the constitution of a specific, rich, and complex urban landscape, where different social groups contribute and are influenced. Enabled by the existence of primary sources organized in the Historical and Cultural Archive of Ubá, the documentary analysis relied on newspapers covering the entire period under consideration, a photographic collection, and minutes from the Municipal Chamber that allowed for an understanding of the hypotheses raised. Informed by the criticality fundamental to scientific study, there emerged the need to establish a dialogue between cultural heritage, individual and collective memories, and identities, which, in a complex and intentional manner, conceal themselves in the face of the analysis related to the more traditional studies of urban history. This limited and elitist view of historical construction has been challenged by a new interpretation that privileges new actors and emphasizes a genuinely public and plural memory. The highlighted temporal scope (1980- 2020) coincided with the period of consolidation of industrial activity in the city and the formation of a recognized local productive arrangement as fundamental to regional economic development and of national relevance. At the same time, it was observed that it was during this chronological space that the municipality underwent significant transformations, as revealed throughout the research.
