Ensino. Escola.
This research aims to analyze basic education in the state of Amazonas from the perspective of addressing school dropout rates and strengthening the promotion of education. Specifically, it seeks to: a) conduct a descriptive analysis of the profile of basic education in the state of Amazonas; b) analyze, from the perspective of its collaborators, the actions of a Philanthropic Association that works in the context of socio-educational assistance in Amazonas to tackle learning difficulties and school dropouts. In terms of methodology, a quantitative and qualitative approach was adopted. Data from IBGE and MEC were analyzed using Jamovi software to evaluate the educational profile and school dropout rates in Amazonas. The case study of the Casa de Samuel Association, in Iranduba, utilized Bardin's content analysis, with semi-structured interviews and NGO documents. The analysis of the basic education profile in Amazonas showed that, out of the 62 municipalities, 16 lack complementary services, and 72% of schools do not have libraries. In 29% of schools, there is no electricity, hindering access to technologies and educational materials. The average IDEB (Basic Education Development Index) score is 4.7 for early years and 3.2 for high school, both below the national average. Outside of Manaus, there is a sharp decline in high school enrollment, especially in municipalities such as Juruá and Tapauá. In combating school dropouts, the role of third-sector organizations, such as the Casa de Samuel Association, proves to be positive. Initiatives like tutoring, workshops, and psychosocial support improve students’ performance. Despite their timely and valuable work in addressing school dropouts, challenges remain, such as the lack of parental involvement. Additionally, municipalities like Amaturá, Apuí, and Juruá face serious geographical and socioeconomic barriers that contribute to school abandonment. Overcoming these obstacles requires the strengthening of public policies and educational infrastructure, as well as broader and comparative studies on philanthropic initiatives. Expanding projects and investing in innovative public policies in education are essential. Keywords: School Dropout. Education. Teaching. School.
