Abstract
A field trial was conducted in 1984/85 to study the effects of pod removal on soybean seed quality and internally seedborne fungi. Plants were subjected to two pod removal levels (50 and 100%), in four developmental stages (R4.0, RSD, R5.5 and R6.0). Their seeds were harvested at four different times: the first at the R8.0 stage and the ºthers at 15, 30 and 45 days after the R8.0 stage. Pod removal caused an increase in seed weight, seed coat cracking and wrinkling and in the frequency of internally seedbome fungi, and a decrease in seed quality. These effects were enhanced when the harvest was delayed.
