É necessária a discussão, reflexão e ressignificação deste conceito dentro do ambiente.
In Brazil, children s and teenagers competitions have been performed in the original format of performance sports. Overall, they are fostered and supported by education and training national sports institutions with no adaptations or changes with a pedagogical objective, in which the essence of high performance remains. In the context of those competitions, fair play (desportivismo in Portuguese, deportividad or Sportspersonship) is usually associated and used as one of the supporting pillars of such activity. This dissertation was organized as three articles, with the objective of presenting, translating, cross-cultural adaptation and applies the instrument The Multidimensional Sportspersonship Orientations Scale (MSOS-25) it in the evaluation of guidelines for the of fair play. All methodological procedures were approved by the committee ethics and human research at the University Federal of Viçosa (document 123/2010). A systematic review was carried out in the first article aiming at identifying the main tools used in quantitative studies on fair play among teenagers at 11 and 17 years old. The objective of the second article was to describe the process of transcultural translation and adaptation of The Multidimensional Sportspersonship Orientations Scale (MSOS-25) into Portuguese. All the items in the questionnaire were interpreted as being of easy comprehension by experts and the target population as well. Values of intern consistency were acceptable with Cronbach alpha coefficients between 0.5 and 0.8, with good comprehension and inner consistency evidence. Finally, the objective of the third article was to identify orientations on fair play on the 1st School Pan-American as well as to analyze if there were differences in function of citizenship, gender, school type and sports modality. The sample consisted of 215 athlete-students at 15 and 17 years-old from three countries (Brazil, Paraguay and Guatemala), who played handball (n = 92), basketball (n = 36), volleyball (n = 48) and soccer (n = 39). The results showed significant differences (p < 0,05) for gender, citizenship, sports modality and type of school (public or private school), despite the common characteristics of the group regarding to training level and age. This result restates that orientation by the athletestudents for fair-play is directly linked to cultural patterns and moral values present in their society and school community. Concepts and values of fair play in the sports can be developed in the school environment as long as the practice is pedagogically directed toward this objective. It is needed discussion, thinking and remaining of this concept in this environment.
