Abstract
In this work, we seek to analyze the representation of the prince in the 1808 series, by Laurentino Gomes. Starting from the idea that this series presents itself, in Brazil, as a representative of “best-selling discourse in history”, we focus on the linguistic-discursive strategies for presenting the historical characters of Dom João VI, Dom Pedro I and Pedro II. For this, we use the theoretical-methodological section of Semiolinguistics, by Patrick Charaudeau, more specifically the categories present in the Modes of Organization of Narrative and Descriptive Discourse. We also discuss the issue of the report book and the implications of this genre in analyzing the series' discourse. As a result, we can say that the representation of the prince, in the 1808 series, presents an attempt to reformulate (based more on subjectivity than on facts) the official traditional. KEYWORDS: sociodiscursive representations; sociodiscursive imaginaries; discourse of History; biographies; best sellers.
