Abstract
Among the different exploratory activities developed by man, mining is one of the ones that most modify the landscape, generating socio-environmental and socio-economic impacts. Therefore, the objective of this article was to identify and quantify, using Remote Sensing, the changes in the landscape between 2018 and 2020, caused by mining in the municipalities of Teixeiras and Pedra do Anta, Minas Gerais. To this end, satellite images were used: Sentinel-2, for band compositions and generation of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI); and ALOS, to generate the Hydrologically Consistent Digital Elevation Model (MDEHC). Among the results, it was possible to observe that, for the analyzed period, the areas explored increased from 22 hectares to more than 63 hectares, thus demonstrating the potential for landscape modification by mining. Both the methodology and the techniques adopted proved to be effective in recording changes that occurred in the landscape and, therefore, can be replicable to other areas.
