Abstract
Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar duas versões fílmicas da peça Coriolano (1607-08) de William Shakespeare a partir da recepção do público. Para isso, utilizamos reviews desses filmes disponíveis na internet. The Tragedy of Coriolanus de 1984 dirigida por Elijah Moshinsky fez parte de um projeto ambicioso da rede de televisão britânica BBC, que trouxe para a televisão todas as peças escritas pelo dramaturgo inglês, com exceção das escritas em parceria, sendo que a versão de Moshinsky é considerada uma das mais bem-sucedidas deste projeto. Já Coriolano (2011), dirigido por Ralph Fiennes, é a única versão feita diretamente para o cinema, tendo priorizado a ação e a inserção de personagens populares. Importante salientar que embora sejam versões fílmicas baseadas na peça do maior escritor de teatro de todos os tempos são pouco conhecidas no Brasil, o que corrobora uma análise mais detalhada de ambas.
This article has the aim of analyzing two movie adaptations of the play Coriolanus(1607-08) by William Shakespeare from public reception. So, we will use available reviews of these movies on the internet. The Tragedy of Coriolanus of 1984 directed by Elijah Moshinsky belonged to an ambitious project of the British network BBC, that brought to the television all the plays written by theEnglish playwriter, excepting the written in partnership, since Moshinsky’s version is considered one of the most successful of this project. On the other hand Coriolanus(2011), which was directed by Ralph Fiennes, is the only version made directly for the cinema, whose priority was the action and the insertion of popular characters. It is important to underline that although they are movie adaptations based on a play of the best playwright of all time, they are little known in Brazil, what corroborates amore detailed analysis of both.
