Abstract
Esta pesquisa discute o tema educação ambiental no manejo humanitário de animais domésticos na educação básica, conforme a legislação vigente. Teve como objetivo promover a conscientização e o acesso dos professores da educação básica às principais legislações referentes à causa animal e ofertar sugestões para implementá- las no cotidiano escolar de forma interdisciplinar e cidadã. A opção metodológica foi a revisão bibliográfica, recorrendo-se, principalmente, à análise documental das normas jurídicas brasileiras (federais, do estado de Minas Gerais e do Município de São Gotardo-MG), tratados internacionais, documentos escolares e reportagens digitais aplicáveis à Educação Ambiental, Cidadania e Proteção Animal. O método utilizado foi o exploratório. Dentre as principais inferências, identificou-se que a causa animal é um fator de saúde pública e cidadania e que a escola, por meio das práticas docentes reflexivas, exerce um papel imprescindível na transformação da sociedade ao fomentar os estudantes para o exercício de uma cidadania participativa e crítica. Porém, os textos e a amostra analisada indicam que possivelmente é insuficiente a adesão das escolas com relação a valorização da temática. This research discusses the theme of environmental education in the humane management of domestic animals in basic education in accordance with current legislation. Its objective was to promote awareness and access of basic education for teachers to the main legislation concerning animal welfare and to offer suggestions for their implementation in daily school life in an interdisciplinary and citizen-oriented manner. The methodological approach chosen was literature review, primarily relying on documentary analysis of Brazilian legal norms (federal, state of Minas Gerais, and the Municipality of São Gotardo-MG), international treaties, school documents, and digital reports applicable to Environmental Education, Citizenship, and Animal Protection. The method used was exploratory. Among the main findings, it was identified that animal welfare is a factor in public health and citizenship, and that schools, through reflective teaching practices, plays an essential role in transforming society by encouraging students to engage in participatory and critical citizenship. However, the texts and the analyzed sample indicate that possibly the adherence of schools to the valorization of the theme is insufficient.
