A emancipação política do Brasil e as diferentes posturas da província de Minas Gerais

Abstract

Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar fontes documentais do período da “independência” do Brasil, em 1822, observando as tendências políticas que se opunham à adesão (ou não) ao pro- jeto pedrino, analisando as divergências entre as vilas, bem como perceber a ambiguidade política do governador provincial da época, D. Manuel Portugal e Castro. Pretende também discutir a historiografia sobre essa temática, contrapondo as perspectivas de aspecto “ufanista” de Salomão de Vasconcelos, historiador mineiro, e a corrente historiográfica que critica a existência de tais elementos patrióticos na política mineira do início do século XIX.This article aims to analyze documentary sources from the period of the independence of Brazil, in 1822, observing the political trends that were opposite to joining (or not) the pedrino project, analyzing the differences be- tween the villages, as weel as trying to understand the ambiguity of the policy from the provincial Governor at the time, Manuel Portugal e Castro. The historiography on this subject will also be discussed, contrasting the perspectives of “patriotic” aspect from the historian from Minas Gerais, Salomão de Vascon- celos, and current historiography which criticizes the existence of such patriotic elements in the policy of Minas Gerais in the early 19th century.
