Considering the importance of Sítophilus zeamais Mots. and recent problems in controllíng it in stored maize, an essay was conducted to evaluate the afficiency of the insecticide abamectin in dosages of 1.00, 3.00 and 5.00 ppm in comparison with pirimíphos-methyl, fenirothion and sinergized deltamethrin. All the tests were carried Gut at the gram preservation laboratory of the National Center far Training in Storage, from saptember 1989 to March 1990. The statistical design was completely randomizeá in a 6 x 7 factorial (insecticide x time). The evalualiaus were performed 10, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 days after the insecticide applicationa. Ahamectin 3.00 and 5.00 ppm, pírimiphos-methyl, and sinergized deltazmthrin all had about the same result. None of the insectieides in the dosages used interfered signiâeanthy with the maíze germination.
