A pequena cidade: inserção regional, dinâmica e produção do espaço urbano de Piraúba-MG

Abstract

A maioria das cidades brasileiras podem ser consideradas pequenas, seja pelo seu porte demográfico, pela dimensão, pela inserção na rede urbana ou na participação na economia regional. Apesar de maioria no território, as pesquisas realizadas sobre o espaço urbano brasileiro são focadas em cidades grandes, mais recentemente passou a incluir as médias, deixando lacunas a serem preenchidas no que tange ao estudo das urbes que compõe as pequenas cidades. Durante a elaboração do projeto de pesquisa foi identificada uma carência de pesquisas voltadas para compreender a dinâmica de produção e reprodução do espaço urbano das pequenas cidades, bem como quem são os agentes atuantes, quais processos se realizam em seu território e quais formas urbanas são consequentes dessa dinâmica. Em busca de trabalhos dentro da temática foi identificado que não haviam pesquisas que tratassem do espaço urbano da pequena cidade como um todo, nem que elencassem os agentes atuantes. Portanto essa pesquisa busca responder a seguinte pergunta: Como e quem produz o espaço urbano da cidade de Piraúba e quais são as consequências físico-territoriais dessa dinâmica? Como campo de estudos foi escolhida a cidade de Piraúba, localizada na Região Imediata de Ubá, na Zona da Mata de Minas Gerais. A escolha se justifica pela relação da pesquisadora com o campo de estudos e decorrente percepção do desenvolvimento da urbanização do município, ocorrida a partir dos anos 1990, a área urbana tem passado por expansão tanto vertical como horizontal e pelo desenvolvimento de setores econômicos propriamente urbanos. A dissertação se dividiu em quatro capítulos, dois de embasamento teórico, sobre espaço urbano e pequena cidade, dois de pesquisa, sobre a inserção regional de Piraúba e a produção do espaço urbano do município. Ao fim debate-se a presença dos agentes e a forma com que os processos acontecem na cidade. Palavras-chave: Pequena cidade. Produção do espaço urbano. Inserção regional.Most Brazilian cities can be considered small, either by their demographic size, their dimension, their insertion in the urban network or their participation in the regional economy. Despite being the majority in the territory, the researches conducted on the Brazilian urban space are focused on large cities, and more recently began to include the medium-sized ones, leaving gaps to be filled in what concerns the study of the cities that make up the small cities. During the elaboration of the research project it was identified a lack of research aimed at understanding the dynamics of production and reproduction of urban space in small cities, as well as who are the active agents, which processes take place in their territory and which urban forms are consequent of this dynamic. In the search for works on the subject it was identified that there were no researches that dealt with the urban space of the small town as a whole, nor that listed the active agents. Therefore, this research seeks to answer the following question: How and who produces the urban space of the city of Piraúba and what are the physical-territorial consequences of this dynamic? The city of Piraúba, located in the immediate region of Ubá, in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais, was chosen as the field of study. The choice is justified by the relationship of the researcher with the field of studies and the perception of the development of urbanization of the municipality, which has occurred since the 1990s. The dissertation is divided in four chapters, two of them of theoretical basis, about urban space and small town, and two of research, about the regional insertion of Piraúba and the production of urban space in the municipality. At the end, the presence of agents and the way in which the processes take place in the city are discussed. Keywords: Small town. Production of urban space. Regional insertion.
