Fatores reguladores do ataque do tripes Frankliniella schultzei à cultura da melancia

Abstract

O cultivo de melancia (Citrullus lanatus) tem grande relevância econômica e social devido a renda e os empregos gerados. Nos cultivos de melancia uma das pragas mais importantes é o tripes Frankliniella schultzei (Trybom) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae). Os estudos dos fatores reguladores da intensidade do ataque das pragas às culturas possibilitam o entendimento da bioecologia destes organismos e servem de base para o planejamento do uso de métodos de controle em programas de manejo integrado de pragas. Apesar da importância de F. schultzei como praga da cultura de melancia até o momento não se conhece os fatores que regulam sua intensidade de ataque a esta cultura. Assim este trabalho teve como objetivo determinar os fatores que regulam a intensidade de ataque de F. schultzei à cultura da melancia. Para tanto durante duas safras em oito cultivos se monitorou o ataque do tripes F. schultzei à cultura (intensidade e local de ataque), densidades dos inimigos naturais e os elementos climáticos. Os cultivos foram conduzidos nas épocas chuvosa e seca. O ataque de F. schultzei foi maior nas partes mais apicais dos ramos, em plantas no estádio vegetativo e na época seca. Quanto maior o ataque de F. schultzei às plantas maiores foram as populações do predador Chrysoperla sp. (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae). As chuvas influenciaram negativamente o ataque de F. schultzei enquanto que os ventos influenciaram positivamente as populações do tripes. Portanto a intensidade de ataque de F. schultzei foi regulada pelas chuvas de forma negativa e pelos ventos de forma positiva e o ataque desta praga foi maior em folhas mais novas e no início do cultivo.

The watermelon crop (Citrullus lanatus) has great economic and social importance, mainly due to high financial return and the creation of jobs. In watermelon crops, one of the most important pest is the thrips Frankliniella schultzei (Trybom) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae). Studies of the factors regulating the intensity of pest attack on crops enable the understanding of the bioecology of these organisms and provide the basis for planning the use of control methods in integrated pest management programs. Despite the importance of F. schultzei as watermelon crop pest, the factors that regulate its intensity of attack to this crop still unknown. So, this study aimed to determine the factors that regulate intensity of attack of F. schultzei in the watermelon crop. Therefore, during two growing seasons of watermelon in Brazil, we monitored the attack of the thrips F. schultzei in eight watermelon crops (intensity and attack site), densities of natural enemies and weather elements. The cultivations were conducted in the rainy and dry seasons. The attack of F. schultzei was higher in apical parts of the branches of the plants in the vegetative stage and during the dry season. The density of F. schultzei was higher in plants with higher populations of the predator Chrysoperla sp. (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae). Rains influenced negatively the attack of F. schultzei, while the winds influenced positively. Therefore, the attack of F. schultzei was regulated by the rains negatively and winds positively and the attack of this pest was higher in young leaves and of young plants.
