Abstract
Anticarsia gemmatalis Hübner (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is mainly controlled with synthetic insecticides. However, these compounds can be harmful to natural enemies like Podisus distinctus Stäl (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae). Indoxacarb is an insecticide from the chemical group of oxadiazines, which acts on the nervous system of insects, with effectiveness in the control of lepidopterans and reduced effect on non-target organisms. The aim was to evaluate the effects of indoxacarb in A. gemmatalis caterpillars and in adults of the predator P. distinctus. The effectiveness of this insecticide was determined by calculating its lethal concentrations (LC 25 , LC 50 , LC 75 and LC 90 ) in the laboratory. The survival of A. gemmatalis caterpillars and adults of the predator P. distinctus was analyzed by the Kaplan-Meier estimator. The respiration rate, after exposure to indoxacarb, was determined with a respirometer and the locomotor behavior was analyzed using a video tracking system. Indoxacarb was toxic and reduced the survival of A. gemmatalis and P. distinctus up to 72 hours after exposure. This insecticide reduced A. gemmatalis respiratory rate after exposure to it. Changes in the locomotor behavior of both species exposed to indoxacarb were detected. The compatibility of indoxacarb with P. distinctus is low and therefore, should not be recommended, with this predator, in the integrated management of A. gemmatalis in soybean crops.
