A partir da Constituição Federal de 1988, no Brasil, houve uma ampliação do conceito de Patrimônio Cultural, com a substituição do termo Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico para Patrimônio Cultural Brasileiro. Essa mudança significou o reconhecimento da herança cultural de diversos grupos formadores da sociedade brasileira: a valorização de suas práticas culturais, dos seus modos de vida e dos seus saberes. Porém, essa alteração no nome não significa, necessariamente, que tenha havido inclusão da população no processo de patrimonialização. Sendo assim, parte-se do problema de que uma parcela significativa da população não se identifica com o seu Patrimônio Cultural porque não participa do processo de reconhecimento dele. Esta pesquisa propõe analisar o processo de patrimonialização em pequenas cidades, tendo como foco dois municípios do interior de Minas Gerais: Matias Barbosa e Simão Pereira. Os dois municípios possuem várias características semelhantes como: formação histórica e formação cultural. O objetivo é identificar a relação que os habitantes têm com os seus bens culturais protegidos e se estes os representam. Espera-se que os resultados desta pesquisa sejam subsídio para estudos sobre pequenas cidades, para a criação e desenvolvimento de políticas de preservação do patrimônio, para a proteção da memória, da identidade, bem como para justificar a importância da participação popular nos processos de patrimonialização. Participação Social.The preservation of cultural heritage is a policy of safeguarding cultural assets that are symbols of society's history, identity and memory. From the Federal Constitution of 1988, in Brazil, there was an expansion of the concept of cultural heritage, with the replacement of the term Historical and Artistic Heritage by Brazilian Cultural Heritage. This change meant the recognition of the cultural heritage of several groups that formed Brazilian society: the appreciation of their cultural practices, their ways of life and their knowledge. However, this name change does not necessarily mean that the population is included in the patrimonialization process. Therefore, it starts from the hypothesis that a significant portion of the population does not identify with its cultural heritage for not participating in the process of discussion and recognition. The research proposes to analyze the process of patrimonialization in small cities, focusing on two municipalities in the interior of Minas Gerais: Matias Barbosa and Simão Pereira. The two municipalities have several similar characteristics such as: territoriality, historical formation and cultural formation. The objective is to identify the relationship that the inhabitants have with their protected cultural assets and whether they represent them. It is hoped that the results of this research will serve as a subsidy for studies on small cities, for the creation and development of heritage preservation policies, for the protection of memory, identity, as well as for the involvement of people with their heritage process.
