Item El aplomo Del Caballo(Revista Ceres, 2003-11-25) Souza, Maria Veronica de; Durán, Manuel NovalesSi bien se conocen desde hace tiempo una cierta variedad de defectos de aplomo en el caballo, hasta hace poco se consideraba exagerado dedicarle mucha atención a los mismos, dado que algunos animales con defectos competían de forma satisfactoria. Aunque aún no existen muchos datos objetivos que ratifiquen el valor de la conformación, como factor predisponente de la aparición de cojera en el caballo, cada vez es más patente la relación entre algunos defectos de los miembros, y la presencia de ciertas patologías que, no pocas veces, terminan en claudicación. Entre estas patologías se encuentram la enfermedad del hueso navicular, la enfermedad articular degenerativa, la distención de los ligamentos y tendondes y el bloqueo rotuliano.Item Regeneration of peripheral nerve fibres following Haloxon-induced degeneration(Brazilian Journal of Veterinary Research and Animal Science, 1995-11-15) Souza, Maria Veronica de; Graça, Dominguita Luhers; Ferrão, Sandro Narciso Nunes; Contesini, Emerson AntônioDelayed neurotoxicity has been associated with organophosphorus poisoning for years. In order to study such condition in sheep, 11 animals were given either one or two high doses of Haloxon. Exposed sheep were observed daily and between 16 and 25 days after adm inistration neurological signs as incoordination and ataxia were detected in six of them. Biopsies of tibial and laryngeal nerves were performed as soon as neurotoxicity was diagnosed, and after death fragm ents of selected nerves were collected together with CNS tissues for light and electron microscopy and teased fiber studies. Laryngeal, tibial and sciatic nerves showed the most pronouced changes, consisting chiefly of wallerian degeneration that was seen either as a single fiber or as a com plete fascicle feature. Exams performed after death clearly showed regenerating fascicles with axonal sprouts growing within a Schwann cell old basal lamina, and some thinly myelinated axonal sprouts.
