Yield and chemical-proximal composition of tropical forage introduced in a degraded molassesgrass pasture
The experiment was carried out at the Departmento de Zootecnia of Universidade Federal de Viçosa, to evaluate the productivity and the chemical- proximal composition of the Brachiaria decumbens (signalgrass) and of the Hyparrheniagrass rufa (jaraguagrass) fertilized with N or in consortia with Stylosanthes guianensis (Stylosanthes), introduced in degraded molassesgrass pasture (Melinis minutiflora, Beauv.). A complete randomized blocks experimental design with three replications consisted of a (2 x 4) + 2 factorial arrangement that respectively corresponded to the two species, signalgrass and jaraguagrass, four doses of N (0, 50, 100 and 150 kg/ha) and two additional treatments referent to the two consortia, B. decumbens + Stylosanthes guianensis and H. rufa + S. guianensis. The nitrogen fertilization, in the urea form, dispersed in two times, was broadcast applied, according to the treatment. Dolomite limestone was broadcast applied (1.7 t/ha) and the phosphate fertilizer was applied (90 kg/ha of P2O5) in an open furrow spaced by one meter. The potassium fertilizer (60 kg/ha of K2O) was mixed to micronutrients (30 kg/ha of FTE BR 12) and broadcast applied in a unique dose. After the establishment of the forage species two evaluations were realized, with a cut in August of 1999 (first cut) and another in December of 1999 (second cut). The dry matter productions (DM) of the signalgrass increased (P <0,01) in response to the N doses, as much in the first cut as in the second cut, but in none of the cuts were observed response (P>.05) of the jaraguagrass. The signalgrass, in both cuts, was superior (P<.05) to the jaraguagrass in forage yield. The crude protein (CP) contents of the signalgrass positively changed (P<.01), in function of the N doses, only in the first cut. While the jaraguagrass presented increment in the CP content, in the first (P<.01) and in the second cuts (P<.05). The neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) content of the signalgrass were lower (P<.05) that those observed for the jaraguagrass. As the N doses increase a decrease (P<.05) of the P content was observed in both species, in both cuts, but they did not differ to each other (P>.05) within the different N doses. The K content observed for the two grasses was situated below the critical levels established in the literature, but when compared to each other, there was superiority (P <0,05) of the signalgrass in the two cuts. The grasses presented high Ca concentrations in the aerial part, as much in the first cut as in the second, but no differences (P>.05) among them in the different N fertilization was observed. The Mg content of the signalgrass was higher (P<.05) in the two cuts, when the grasses were compared. In a general way, the consortia signalgrass and Stylosanthes and jaraguagrass and Stylosanthes was higher (P<.05) than the two grasses fertilized with different N doses. The legume showed a well adaptation to the area, fact observed by the high DM production in the two cuts, reducing the participation of the associated grasses. When the treatments of the consortia signalgrass and Stylosanthes and jaraguagrass and Stylosanthes was compared to each other, better response (P<.05) was observed for the evaluated characteristics when the legume was associated to the signalgrass.
