The actual proceed was developed after on six experiments. In the first experiment was evaluated the intake, digestibility of nutrients, daily gain and feed conversion were evaluated in beef cattle receiving diets based on sorghum silage and tifton 85 haylage as forage, in the following proportions: 0:100; 32:68; 66:34; and 100:0, respectively, in dry matter basis. The isonitrogenous diets were formulated to contain 12% of crude protein, adopting a relation forage:concentrate of 60:40, in dry matter basis. Twenty-four crossed animals (HxZ), intact, with initial mean body weight of 360 kg were distributed in a casualized blocks design. After an adaptation period of 15 days, three experimental periods of 28 days were conducted. In order to determine the fecal excretion, acid detergent fiber was used as marker. The mean daily intake, in kg, of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), total carbohydrates and total digestible nutrients were not affected by the diets, registering mean values of: 9.46; 9.05; 1.20; 0.52; 7.4; and 6.10 kg/day, respectively. The apparent digestibility of DM, OM, CP, and EE were influenced in a quadratic way by the level of sorghum silage in the forage, estimating minimum digestibility of 60.33; 61.58; 61.89; and 55.83% in the levels of 44.80; 47.18; 50.95; and 51.21% of sorghum silage, respectively. The mean daily gain and feed conversion were influenced in a quadratic way by the level of xiiisorghum silage in the forage, estimating maximum and minimum values of 1.25 kg/day and 7.66 to the levels of 60.95 and 67.04% of sorghum silage in the forage, respectively. In the second experiment the intake and the total and partial digestibility of nutrients, the microbial efficiency, the nitrogen balance, the passage rates of ruminal digesta, the pH and the ammonia ruminal concentration in beef cattle receiving the same diets of the first experiment. Four crossed animals (HxZ) fistulated in the rumen and abomasums, with mean body weight of 364 Kg were assigned to a 4X4 Latin square. The forage: concentrate ratio was 60:40, in dry matter basis. The mean daily intake of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), total carbohydrates (TC), the total apparent digestibility of CP as well, ether extract (EE), non-fiber carbohydrates (NFC) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) were not influenced by the diets registering mean values of 6.01; 5.69; 0.76 e 4.64kg /day and 67.94; 82.12; 84.43 and 53.57%, respectively. The intake of EE, NFC, NDF and total digestible nutrients (TDN) and the total apparent digestibility of DM, OM and TC increased linearly with the increment of sorghum silage in the forage. The ruminal and intestinal digestibility of DM, TC, NFC and NDF were not influenced by the diets. The pH was not influenced by the collection time, or by the diets and the average values of 6.21 were registered. The ammonia concentration was influenced by the collection times, estimating the maximum value of 13.14 mg/ 100 ml, 2.90 hour after feeding. Ruminal digesta passage rates of 5.30; 4.27; 4.22 and 4.10% / hour were respectively estimated for diets containing 0; 32; 66 and 100% of sorghum silage in the forage. The level of sorghum silage in the diet did not influence the microbial efficiency. The balance of nitrogen (g/day) increased linearly with the increment of sorghum silage proportion in the forage. The inclusion of next 60% of sorghum silage in the forage promoted maximum estimated weight gain. The use of Tifton 85 haylage associated with sorghum silage has shown to be a great alternative of forage for finishing beef cattle. In the third experiment the intake, digestibility of nutrients, daily gain, feed conversion and the carcass yield in beef cattle receiving diets containing 0; 0.5; 1.0 e 1.5% of urea in total dry matter were analyzed. Twenty- one crossed animals (HxZ), castrated, with initial mean body weight of 290 kg were distributed in a completely casual design. Sorghum silage was used as forage adopting relation forage: concentrate of 70:30 in dry matter basis. The assay lasted 127 days, being 15 days of adaptation and four periods of 28 days for the evaluations. In order to determine the fecal excretion, acid detergent fiber was used as a marker. The intake and the digestibility of nutrients were not influenced by the proportions of urea in xivthe diets. For the intake and the apparent digestibility of dry matter, mean values of 8.42 kg/day or 2.33%PV e 64.52% were registered, respectively. The mean daily gain, the carcass yield and the feed conversion were not influenced by the proportions of urea in the diets, registering mean values of 1.05 kg/day, 8.07 and 48.72%, respectively. In the fourth the intake and the total and partial digestibility of nutrients the microbial efficiency, the nitrogen balance, the passage rates of ruminal digesta, the pH, and the ammonia ruminal concentration were evaluated in beef cattle receiving the same diets of the third experiment. It was used four crossbred animals (HxZ), fistulated in rumen and abomasums, with mean body weight of 459Kg were assigned to a 4x4 Latin square. It was used the sorghum silage as forage in forage: concentrate relation of 70:30, in dry matter basis. Excluding the intake of total digestible nutrients that decreased linearly with the increase of the levels of urea in a diet, the intakes of the nutrients were not influenced by diets. The total and partial related digestibilities of the nutrients were not influenced by diets. The pH was not influenced by the collection time or by the diets and the average values of 6.46 were registered. The ammonia concentration was influenced by the times of collect, estimating the maximum value of 11.72mg/100ml, 2.77 after feeding. It was estimated passage rates of ruminal digesta of 4,1; 4,4; 3,8 e 3,2%/hour, to diets containing 0; 0.5; 1,0; and 1,5% of urea, respectively. The microbial efficiency stated in different ways was influenced by the levels of urea in a diet. The balance of nitrogen was not by the levels of urea in a diet. Levels of 1.5% of urea in the dry matter of the total diet can be used in the preparation of diets for finishing beef cattle (HxZ) without compromising the consumption, digestibility, ruminal parameters and the animal performance as well. In the fifth experiment the intake, digestibility of nutrients, daily gain and feed conversion were evaluated in beef cattle receiving diets containing Tifton 85 grass hay and corn silage as forage in the following proportions: 100:0; 68:32; 35:65; and 0:100, in dry matter basis. Nineteen Limousin crossed with Zebu, intact, with initial mean body weight of 301 kg were distributed in a completely casualized design. The forage:concentrate ratio was 58:42, in dry matter basis. The assay lasted 99 days, being 15 days of adaptation and three periods of 28 days for the evaluations. In order to determine the fecal excretion, undigestible acid detergent fiber was used as a marker. The mean daily intake of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), total carbohydrates (TC) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) were influenced in a quadratic way by the level of corn silage. The estimated maximum values of intakes of DM and OM were 7.52 and 7.08 kg/day, for the levels of 61.13 and xv61.78% of corn silage in the forage, respectively. The apparent digestibility of DM, OM and NDF were not influenced by corn silage level in the forage. The mean daily gain and feed conversion increased and decreased linearly, respectively, with the increment of corn silage proportion in the forage fraction of the diets. The combination of next 60% corn silage and 40% Tifton 85 grass hay of low quality, in a 60% forage diet, maximized the dry matter intake, without compromise the weight gain. In the sixth experiment the intake, digestibility of nutrients, daily gain, feed conversion and the carcass yield in beef cattle receiving diets containing corn silage and concentrated in the following proportions78:22; 63:37; 47:53 and 33:67, in dry matter basis were analyzed. Twenty- three crossed animals (HxZ), castrated, with initial mean body weight of 360 Kg were distributed in a completely casual design. After an adaptation period of 15 days, three experimental periods were evaluated, the first two periods of 21 days each and the third one of 28 days. In order to determine the fecal excretion, indigestible acid detergent fiber was used as a marker. A linear increment was observed for the intake of the nutrients with the increase of the levels of concentrate in the diet. The apparent digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, total carbohydrates; non-fiber carbohydrates and neutral detergent fiber were influenced in a quadratic way estimating maximum digestibility of 72.55; 73.50; 73.37; 72.85; 83.42 and 61.78% for the levels of 40.97; 40.42; 41.47; 40.92; 35.41 and 36.92% in the concentrate, respectively. The mean daily gain increased linearly with the increment of concentrate in the diets. However, the carcass yield and the feed conversion were not influenced by the diets, registering mean values of 50.40% and 7.82% respectively. Therefore in diets for beef cattle in feedlot, where corn silage is used as forage, levels of concentrate around 35% and 40% of the total diet in dry matter basis is recommended, because they presented higher levels of nutrient digestibility, without compromising the weight gain.
